As a child, Amanda Goldman-Petri had to overcome multiple trauma’s that resulted in her believing the universe “was out to get her.” The culmination of her woes was being in a car accident. To be specific, a car hit her when she was crossing the street.
ummmmm, yeah. That is the epitome of a car accident.
Amanda said her childhood was based in poverty which lead to bullying and drove her inward and into books. This developed her inner nerd into a well-rounded young woman who managed to get top grades and land admission to John Hopkins University.
after surviving a step-father-from-hell moment, she thought this was her way out of abuse, poverty and into the life she always wanted.
Amanda was finishing high school, had just left the orthodontist after having gotten her braces off and BOOM! was hit by a car while crossing the street. “I remember turning my head as the car collided with my leg and my head shattered the windshield”
An 80-year-old man, driving a mini-van, going 50 miles an hour didn’t even know he had hit her. When he realized it, he hit the brakes and she flew into traffic.
You would think being in a car accident in and of itself would be the worst of it,
But you would be wrong.
While she was recovering she was raped while she was bedridden.
Wanna know how she found out? When she discovered she was pregnant four months later.
Determined to start John Hopkins in the fall, she showed up pregnant, with a cane and a serious limp.
Enter bullying and being called “cane girl”
AGP, as she likes to be called, said that it was the trauma’s she suffered after the accident that brought her to her end.
Can we just pause and say AGP is a total badass!?
Amanda Said that this all created her cornerstone personality trait of being non-judgemental and accepting of people where they are. (insert hero button here)
A brand-new mother, which she felt wasn’t her decision, AGP had to fight to bond with her baby and get through college.
Her pivot point was when her mother left the abusive relationship she was in and she and Amanda started to take control of their lives.
Through a series of people, AGP started to cobble a support system and life began to take off.
Today AGP is married with two beautiful sons and a man that she is “obsessed with.”
What I loved about this episode is AGP’s ten-foot-tall personality and her unwavering belief in being everything she could be. She is one of the most energetic people I have had the pleasure to interview and her facebook group is bomb!
